2025 Goals

I had just one goal for 2024 - Go to the gym. This year I have 7 in the following categories: Fitness, Supporting family healing, Social, Blog writing, Mental health, Relationships, & Travel.
Fitness Goals
My only goal for 2024 was: Go to the gym. Let me tell you, that goal was a STRUGGLE. My depression had come back in full force, and my usual Saturday activity was laying on the couch staring at the ceiling. Sometimes if I’m not as depressed, I can binge watch streaming services in between sobs, but in this case, I couldn’t even muster up the energy to turn on the TV. Just sob.
At a holiday party, I met a trainer who worked at a local gym. When I went home, I looked up the address and made contact to set up an appointment. All went smoothly, and I was able to join. But then. It came time to drive myself to my first fitness class. I was over at my parents’ house, affectionately known as the PUA (Parental Unit Abode), and I told my mom,
“I need to go to the gym, but I can’t go.”
Mom was 3 weeks out from having knee replacement surgery. She was still on crutches, elevating her knee when sitting, going to physical therapy 3x/week, and taking pain medication. Y’all, my mom said,
“I’ll go with you.”
And she got her crutches. I got her truck keys; she hobbled into the truck and we drove to the gym. Then she hobbled out of the truck and inside the gym with me.
She did this for me until I could do it alone. I’m one helluva lucky gal to have Kathryn for my mom. She said wiping tears from her eyes.
My fitness goals for 2025:
1. Bench press my body weight. Current bench press weight 85#, and will make a goal to reach 160#.
2. Dead lift 200#. Current dead lift weight 165#.
3. Squat 225#. Current squat weight 70#. Note to self: ask Tate (coach) if doing 225# squat weight will increase my booty size. It’s not a goal of mine (to increase booty size) because it already be plenty big. Plenty. I mean there’s big. Then there’s extra-large. Mega. And then there’s Kim Kardashian size. Mine be Kim Kardashian – plus size. Bonus: mine be all natural.
4. Continue doing unassisted pullups.
5. BEAT JERRY. Jerry is my workout buddy who has a different coach and works out at the same time I do on Mondays. More on Jerry later.
Supporting Family Healing Goals
My parents’ relationship has historically been dysfunctional at best. Recently, my dad seems to finally be open to changing his behavior after years of imploring him to seek both therapy and mental health care. I am cautiously hopeful, and yet still skeptical at the same time.
My supporting family healing goals for 2025:
1. Continue supporting Mom as she unlearns co-dependency and unhealthy coping strategies.
2. Continue confronting Dad when he displays unacceptable behavior.
3. Continue speaking truth to Dad.
4. Continue holding Dad accountable.
Social Goals
Making and maintaining friendships has been a challenge for me. As a kid, I was shy. As an adult, still shy. And introverted. And socially awkward though I have made progress albeit minutely. I’ve made few friends, and some have moved away. Or gotten married and have kids and can’t socialize anymore. I intend to bolster my social relationships. Connectivity is key.
Blog Goals
I wrote 2 blog posts in 2024. My goal this year is to write 6. That’s a 300% increase from last year.
Mental Health Goals
This one is challenging given that I have treatment resistant depression and conventional drugs don’t work. Hurrah. My mental health goal is to advocate for myself and schedule TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) appointments before I hit the Oh Shit I Can’t Get Off the Couch stage.
Relationship Goals
It would be nice to be in a committed relationship again. Given it is healthy. Functional. And not Toxic. My goal is to be open and available to new possibilities.
Travel Goals
In 2024, I traveled to 2 states – Kentucky and Tennessee. For 2025, my goal is to travel to 5 states – Arizona, Alaska, Alabama (my home state), Florida and Washington.
